51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó turns 60 this fall – Sept. 10 to be exact – and a host of activities are planned throughout the semester to highlight our university’s rich history and its incredible transformation into a premier urban research institution.
Next up is 60th Anniversary Week and the community is invited to attend the student-led birthday celebration Sept. 12 (with cake) and listen to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó President Len Jessup’s vision for the future at his annual State of the University Address Sept. 14.
51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó 60th Birthday Party
When: Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Pida Plaza, outside the Student Union
Join the student-led Rebel Events Board for 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó’s 60th Birthday Party. During the spirit rally portion of the event from 2 p.m. to 2:30, President Jessup and event organizers will share remarks and cut the 60th-themed red velvet birthday cake alongside members of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó band and pom team.
Arrive early for a slice of birthday cake, grab a picture in the photo booth and take part in the afternoon celebration.

51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó President Len Jessup will deliver his annual State of the University address to kick off the new academic year on campus and mark 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó’s 60th anniversary celebration. During his address, Jessup will highlight campus achievements, provide updates on key initiatives and activities, and share his vision for the university’s future.
Len Jessup began his tenure as 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó’s 10th president in January 2015. Since then, the university has finalized a strategic plan to join the ranks of the nation’s top tier public research universities through a commitment to research, student achievement and community impact. In 2017 the university launched a new 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄÜ¿Æ´ó School of Medicine, celebrated a record year for fundraising, boosted both research awards and expenditures, and strengthened its commitment to community engagement.
