The 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄܿƴó Office of Information Technology recently discovered what may have been unauthorized activity on a university desktop computer dating to 2008. The computer included names and social security numbers of approximately 2,000 current and former employees who had computer loans and other transactions with the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄܿƴó Controller's Office.
The activity was identified during routine computer maintenance and a 51³Ô¹ÏÍøÍòÄܿƴó information security team has investigated the circumstances underlying this event. Though unauthorized access has not been confirmed, the Office of Information Technology continuously works to ensure sensitive data are protected and has taken steps to notify those potentially affected.

The office also offers outreach and training for university employees on information security, including ways to protect sensitive information and prevent identity theft.
