The Nevada Conservatory Theatre is pleased to present Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard on Oct. 14-16 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Theatre professor Michael Lugering directs.
The last of the great Chekhovian canon, The Cherry Orchard examines the lives of the aristocratic Russian landowner Ranevskaya and her family at the turn of the 20th century. Ranevskaya returns to her family estate only to find that it, like so much of the aristocracy, is under attack. In a world that is changing, what will Ranevskaya do to save the estate? How will she face the changing world around her?

Lugering is an internationally recognized scholar, teacher, and practicing theatre artist. He developed the Lugering Method of Integrated Voice, Movement and Actor Training, which focuses on the physical and aesthetic aspects of human expression in the context of actor training. This pioneer approach was the first of its kind to articulate a complete system of trans-disciplinary acting practices, combining voice, movement and acting training in an integrated method of study. The documentation of this progressive method is outlined in his seminal text — The Expressive Actor: Integrated Voice, Movement and Actor Training; and in a four-part video series: The Expressive Actor Series published by First Light Video. Lugering is the founding director of The Expressive Actor, a non-profit arts organization committed to the exploration of integrated methods of actor training. Lugering teaches in the MFA actor training program and is currently acting chair of the department of theatre and the executive producer/artistic director of the Nevada Conservatory Theatre. He is a proud recipient of college and university distinguished teaching awards.
The cast includes Kymberly Mellen as Ranevskaya, Taylor Hanes as Gaev, Nico Lemus as Anya, Skylar Schock as Varva, Ryan Ruckman as Lopahin, Luke Halferty as Trofimov, Martin Hackett as Simyonov-Pishchik, Jenn Chandler as Charlotta, Greg Prusiewicz as Yephodov, Frannie Maas as Dunvasha, Kevin Stevens as Yasha, and Phil Hubbard as Firs. The ensemble includes Taylor Matthews, Tom Hogan, Anjali Norton, and Justin James.
