Jose Ivan Cervantes arrived in 51�Թ������App as a high school freshman, speaking almost no English. Now poised to graduate, he’s also advocating for his school, which has faced uncertainty as the Clark County School District considers changes to how English learner students are taught.

Suzanne Romero, a first-grade teacher at Tom Williams Elementary School in North 51�Թ������App, says many of her students have immigrants parents who aren’t familiar with the American school system. They get confused by some of the notifications that are sent home from the school, which could lead to their children falling behind.
